Tips for measuring for your curtain rods and your curtain tracks...

We often get asked how much extra overhang each side of the window should my curtain rods and curtain tracks extend? We usually recommend for most situations that you add ten percent to each side of the window opening ( 20 per cent in total) for allowing the curtains to draw back each side of the window. For example if your window opening was 2000 mm you would order a 2400 mm rod that would give you a 200 mm overhang on each side. If your curtains were made from a heavy fabric and had a lot of fullness I would go a little further each side, inversely if they were very light curtains you could reduce the length of the curtain rods.
For French doors, Ranchsliders and Stacker doors allow more than the usual ten per cent rule as you will not want the curtains blowing in the breeze when the doors are open!
All our metal and wood curtain rods, and curtain tracks are crafted in Cambridge factory for New Zealand conditions - no imported cut down products here! Our curtain rods are made to the exact length that you specify and come with matching finials and brackets as a complete set.
